About The Position

At Arup, we are dedicated to sustainable development and socially useful work that has meaning. As a Rail Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to utilize MicroStation and AutoCAD software to lay out right-of-way, rail alignments, and provisions for systems interfaces including catenary foundations, signal equipment, and duct banks. You will also work on civil interfaces such as drainage, grade crossings, maintenance access and egress, utility systems, and grading. Your role will involve referencing applicable standards such as the AREMA Manual of Railway Engineering, Agency Design Standards, NFPA-130, National Electric Code, and related specifications for the design of these elements. You will gain an understanding of the interdependence between various skills in delivering sustainable outcomes and learn the keys to delivering stage-specific work for the best outcomes at each stage of the project life cycle, including planning, design, and construction phases. Your responsibilities will also include supporting performance of construction phasing analysis and interdisciplinary coordination with Structures, Civil, Architecture, M/E/P, Communications, Signaling, Power, Catenary, as well as Operations and Maintenance planning. You will implement techniques to develop and demonstrate quality work and gain an understanding of the regulatory environment for gaining approval at different stages of project delivery. As part of your internship, you will participate in developing reports, calculations, plans, drawings, and specifications that meet Arup's format, style, and quality requirements. This role is ideal for graduates who are curious and ready to evolve how they think and work, and who are eager to contribute to a collaborative environment that values diverse experiences and perspectives.
