Job Description The Rail Cutter is responsible for responsible for driving and operating company vehicles to and from customer locations and to maintain a safe, clean, and professional operation always. The Rail Cutter will be responsible for measuring out rail into 41’ increments, marking rail, and cutting rail. The Rail Cutter will also be responsible for assisting operators with loading rail and OTM into gondola cars and trucks. The Rail Cutter will also be responsible for assisting crew in completing daily reports. Must have at least 1 year of experience cutting rail. This is a traveling position.

  • Clean driving record (no serious traffic violations or DUIs).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with Company policy and D.O.T. regulations.
  • Actively participates in daily safety briefings.
  • Follows all required safety policies and procedures.
  • Measuring, marking, and cutting rail to the proper length.
  • Assist Operators with moving, staging, loading/unloading railroad materials.
  • Ensure that specifications, knowledge of weights and procedures for material handling are in place prior to commencing work.
  • Works with hydraulic tools, welding, cutting with torches, electrical tools and common hand tools in accomplishment of work assignments.
  • Continuously monitors equipment/vehicles to minimize downtime and to ensure operational readiness.
  • Maintains vehicles/equipment to ensure that they are cleaned of debris/trash, tools and equipment are organized and that the vehicle/equipment presents the level of quality our customers expect.
  • Must pass qualification tests as required (includes eRailSafe and other training/safety programs) prior to beginning employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
