About The Position

As a Rafter Crane Operator at Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in setting up and operating high-speed equipment with robotic elements to form or cut steel to precise specifications. This role ensures efficient, high-quality production while maintaining safety and operational standards. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment , is detail-oriented , and demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude.

Requirements

  • Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and maintain production records; proficiency with measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers; capable of operating forklifts, cranes, and other required equipment.
  • Detail-oriented, ability to work independently, strong problem-solving skills.
  • Regular, full-time, predictable attendance; commitment to lead and promote safe work practices per regulatory and company policy.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs, bend, stoop, climb, push, and pull.
  • Ability to stand for 10–12 hours and maintain good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to perform work in a plant/manufacturing environment.
  • Use of abdominal and lower back muscles to support movement over time without fatigue.
  • Other physical requirements as necessary for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Observe all safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) rules to operate equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Set up and calibrate equipment to meet production requirements.
  • Inspect materials for quality issues before, during, and after production.
  • Record and report deficiencies in quality to supervisors or the quality department.
  • Maintain equipment tooling and other necessary tools to ensure job completion.
  • Diagnose equipment and quality problems while minimizing scrap and production delays.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain clean and safe work areas.
  • Complete reports related to production, changeovers, and scrap material.
  • Assist maintenance teams with repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
