About The Position

The Radiological Technologist supports the delivery, coordination, and quality assurance of diagnostic radiology services within University Health Services (UHS). This role ensures compliance with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations, maintains digital radiography operations, performs diagnostic imaging, and provides per‑diem radiologic and ECG services as needed. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to regulatory standards, and effective communication with campus partners, referring physicians, and external radiology and cardiology consultants. Work Schedule: Radiology operational hours are Monday–Friday: 8:45 AM – 5:00 PM (1 ‑ hour lunch) and Saturday: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM during September-May. Hours change to 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (45-min lunch) for June – August, no Saturdays during the summer. Casual technologists provide coverage for home Princeton University football games, varying by fiscal year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 3+ years
  • Licensure: Current NJ Licensure by the NJDEP, Bureau of Radiology Health
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • CPR/AED certified by the American Heart Association
  • 3+ years of recent hospital diagnostic radiology or outpatient radiography experience
  • Ability to work independently and retain the protocols of our organization
  • Ability to work cohesively with other departments within OPMS, Athletic Medicine, Infirmary, OHS, and CPS.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic Imaging & Patient Care Perform diagnostic radiology studies in accordance with UHS protocols and provider orders.
  • Prepare and position patients for X‑ray exams, ensuring safety, comfort, and adherence to ALARA principles.
  • Conduct ECG testing, prepare patients, complete studies, and transmit results to cardiology consultants.
  • Support continuity of care by preparing and releasing imaging studies in accordance with medical record policies.
  • Communication, Coordination & Administrative Support Serve as liaison between UHS providers, radiology consultants, cardiology consultants, and external specialists.
  • Communicate with PRA and Penn Medicine Hospital for urgent or STAT imaging needs.
  • Manage administrative functions within the EMR, including entering radiology and ECG reports and processing electronic prescriptions.
  • Track and follow up on all pending radiology reports to ensure timely completion.
  • Support legal and administrative functions related to risk management and medical record release.
  • Digital Radiography, PACS, & Image Workflow Operate and maintain digital radiography systems, PACS, and VPN connections for image transmission.
  • Push images to radiology consultants (including STAT/urgent reads) and troubleshoot PACS or workflow issues.
  • Ensure accuracy, quality, and timely routing of all imaging reports and electronic documentation.
  • Prepare CDs and electronic files for medical record release
  • Equipment, Inventory & Maintenance Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance for radiology equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of radiology supplies and ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Maintain manufacturer manuals and documentation for radiology equipment.
  • Quality Control, Compliance & Regulatory Oversight Maintain and monitor all quality control measures for the DR unit in compliance with NJDEP regulations.
  • Participate in QA/QC activities, including preparation for annual state inspections.
  • Track and manage radiation badges and results in collaboration with Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Maintain QC logs, usage reports, maintenance records, and testing documentation.
  • Stay current with radiology standards and updates from AAMP, ARRT, ARA, and ASRT.
