About The Position

The Registered Radiology Technologist 1 is responsible for arranging patients for radiological examinations and producing radiographs (x-rays)/images to assist in the diagnosis of medical problems. The role requires adherence to pre-established imaging protocols and departmental policies for the safe operation of imaging equipment. This position also involves providing comprehensive pre and post-procedure education to patients and their families. Initially, the technologist may require instruction and guidance but is expected to develop into performing work under general supervision. The position reports to a Supervisor or Manager.

Requirements

  • 2 years of clinical training in an AMA approved program
  • Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
  • American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT)
  • For New Graduates: Registry Eligible for ARRT and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT) or current LSRT temp license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Exhibits working knowledge of all Diagnostic Radiology equipment and procedures
  • Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated
  • Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history
  • Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety
  • Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement
  • Coordinates Radiology schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting
  • Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards
  • Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate
  • Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information
  • Uses good body mechanics when moving patients
  • Adheres to infection control practices
  • Asks females of child bearing age if they may be pregnant
  • Uses proper Radiation shielding for pediatric patients and patients in child bearing age
  • Routinely wears film badge to monitor Radiation exposure
  • Completes Annual Mandate Radiation Safety
  • Wears proper Radiation protection equipment while doing procedures
  • Routinely performs proper tube warm-up for all x-ray equipment
  • Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center
  • Completes Exam Data Entry fields on all exams
  • Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials, other duties as assigned
  • Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24 hour coverage of the Radiology Department
  • Assists in other areas of the department as work load permits
  • Keeps areas well stocked at all times
  • Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service and Quality
