The Radiology Technologist operates radiographic equipment to produce radiographs of specified body parts. This role involves operating various x-ray equipment, positioning and instructing patients, applying sterile techniques, preparing rooms for procedures including contrast media and barium setup, and assisting providers during examinations. The technologist is also responsible for processing images using DR and CR readers, sending them to PACS, and routing images and patient history to radiologists. Additional duties include clerical and billing functions, maintaining supplies, ensuring a clean environment, reporting equipment malfunctions, orienting new staff and students, and participating in departmental performance improvement activities. The technologist must provide patient care and education consistent with service standards and the patient population served at BTNRH.
