About The Position

As a Radiology Technologist at Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan, you will play a pivotal role in providing essential diagnostic imaging services that directly contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic conditions. Your expertise in operating advanced radiographic equipment, your attention to detail, and your understanding of orthopedic anatomy and imaging techniques will be crucial in capturing high-quality images of musculoskeletal structures. Collaborating closely with orthopedic physicians and other medical professionals, you will help guide treatment decisions by producing accurate and clear images that aid in the assessment of fractures, joint abnormalities, and other orthopedic issues. Your commitment to patient care, technical proficiency, and knowledge of radiation safety protocols will ensure the highest level of service in this specialized area of radiology.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Radiography program and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry required.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • BLS Certification (or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
  • Ability to correctly operate scanning/imaging machines and other specialist equipment.
  • Knowledge of how to operate applicable safety equipment.
  • Ability to accurately record and maintain electronic records and images.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and empathetic approach; ability to put patients at ease.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching required – may occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to walk to waiting rooms, patient rooms, and radiology on a regular basis.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
  • Employee must have normal or correctible range of hearing and eyesight.

Responsibilities

  • Take high-quality x-rays of patients’ orthopedic conditions as requested by provider(s).
  • Operates, maintains, calibrates, and adjusts specialized equipment.
  • Position patients for each anatomical view needed, immobilizing and protecting patient as required.
  • Evaluate quality to ensure that accurate image is captured and filed.
  • Clean and restock radiography rooms as needed.
  • Review patient charts prior to appointments and surgeries. Document, obtain, and collect all films, reports, and/or records necessary for visits/procedures. Ensure that providers have access to images prior to surgeries.
  • Ensure that the organization and quality of the imaging library is maintained through documentation and the return of hardcopy films to the appropriate office or facility. Maintain electronic and physical record keeping systems. Copy and provide CDs of patient images as requested.
  • Communicate with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Receive and share digital radiology images with third parties.
  • Educate patients and answer questions regarding imaging. Act as a patient/family advocate.
  • Maintain patient dignity and privacy under HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Review the PAC system to ensure that patient records are accurately recorded.
  • Train new team members and assist with the training and shadowing of students/interns/externs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
