About The Position

The Radiology Technologist I operates radiology equipment to produce radiographic images of the body for diagnostic routine purposes. This role involves positioning radiologic equipment and adjusting controls to set exposure time and distance according to the specifications of the examination. The technologist takes x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
  • Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • 0 to 6 months of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of digital radiography (DR) and/or computerized radiography (CR) equipment, techniques, and protocols.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team and collaborate with co-workers as well as independently.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors at all times.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Capable of wearing lead aprons for an extended period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves radiologic orders from and inputs related data into electronic medical record.
  • Prepares patients for radiologic procedures.
  • Escorts patients to the dressing and x-ray rooms, provides verbal and/or written instructions, and assists patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed.
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Positions patients on examining table and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.
  • Operates specialized equipment according to protocols under limited physician supervision.
  • Provides patient care within a broad range of health care needs on a decentralized basis.
  • Moves radiograph equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set graphic exposure factors.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding skills.
  • Obtains acceptable radiologic images using CR/DR techniques and protocols.
  • Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor, manager, or Radiology IS personnel.
  • Maintains examination rooms and orders and stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols.
  • Supports department/hospital goals through personal improvements and educational activities.
  • Maintains professional standards in conjunction with those practice standards recommended by societies such as ARRT and ASRT.
  • Assists with monitoring the patient's level of moderate sedation in conjunction with procedure performed.
  • Initiates additional patient comfort measures/alternatives for sedation, as appropriate.
  • Assures informed consent has been obtained on the patient prior to the start of the procedure.
