The Radiology Technologist Extern will assist technologist in daily duties. Assists in transporting patients by wheelchair or gurney to and from the Radiology Department as needed. Assists in positioning patients for the exams alongside a licensed Radiologic Technologist. Participates in CQI activities. Assists technologist in such clerical duties as helping answer phones, CD/Power Sharing of external images, and faxing of any patient reports. Requirements

Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Must be enrolled, in good standing and with the recommendation of the Director of an Accredited Radiology Program.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
Determines most suitable anatomical posture and dispositions and shields patients accordingly
Assesses, evaluates and informs technologist/nurse/physician of changes in patients condition during an exam
Completes all work before clocking out and leaving.
Understands contraindication and potential hazards of different exams.
Interacts professionally with patient/family
Assists in gathering information for the preparation of reports, patient tests and billing
Operates computer order entry system
Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient.
Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments
