SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Manager Medical Imaging, performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Responsible for designated areas or procedures, as required. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. RESPONSIBILITIES: Meets, greets, answers questions, and provides an understandable explanation of Radiologic examinations to patients in order to reduce apprehension. Provides for safety and comfort of all patients, in accordance with prescribed standards. Schedules patients for radiologic examinations in a prescribed manner, ensuring an efficient patient flow. Processes radiographic images using the CR Readers and scans the images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for physician review. Performs diagnostic procedures demonstrating sound understanding of anatomical positioning, physiology, and technical factors, in order to produce optimum results. Scans documents into Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and (PACS), when applicable. Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards. Operates fixed radiographic equipment in the Radiology Department and/or transports and operates portable radiographic equipment on nursing units. Assists physician and physician assistant in the administration of opaque contrast media. Processes exposed radiographic images as required. Follows protocols for appropriate usage of the RIS and PACS. Maintains orderliness, cleanliness and adequate supplies for assigned area. Rotates within the department and by shift, as required, including weekends and holidays. Participates in the training and instruction of radiologic technology for staff radiographers and students. Maintains quality assurance, observant of hospital and department safety regulations, environmental, and infection control, in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures and objectives. Attire and personal appearance must conform to departmental guidelines and standards. Performs other related duties, as required.
