About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Manager Medical Imaging, the Radiology Tech operates x-ray and bone density equipment and performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures, applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. The role requires making independent decisions for the organization and scheduling of services. All essential functions performed reflect the age-specific needs of adult and geriatric patients, adapting care to their physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. Requirements

  • Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent.
  • Maintains a current license to work in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Must hold current ARRT certification.
  • Ability to consistently meet the following job accountabilities: critical thinking, interpersonal skills, team membership, customer focus, initiative and reliability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • Successful completion of clinical experience required for certification.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians and staff of all levels and display empathy towards all patients.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
  • Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.

Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • Meets, greets, answers questions, and provides an understandable explanation of Radiologic examinations to patients in order to reduce apprehension.
  • Provides for safety and comfort of all patients, in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Schedules patients for radiologic examinations in a prescribed manner, ensuring an efficient patient flow.
  • Processes radiographic images using the DR and CR Readers and sends the images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for physician review.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures demonstrating sound understanding of anatomical positioning, physiology, and technical factors, in order to produce optimum results.
  • Scans documents into Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and (PACS), when applicable.
  • Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Rotates through the x-ray department at the Miriam Hospital, as required, including weekends and holidays.
  • Operates fixed radiographic equipment in the Radiology Department and/or transports and operates portable radiographic equipment on nursing units.
  • Assists physician and physician assistant in the administration of opaque contrast media.
  • Processes exposed radiographic images as required.
  • Follows protocols for appropriate usage of the RIS and PACS.
  • Maintains orderliness, cleanliness and adequate supplies for assigned area.
  • Participates in the training and instruction of radiologic technology for staff radiographers and students.
  • Maintains quality assurance, observant of hospital and department safety regulations, environmental, and infection control, in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Attire and personal appearance must conform to departmental guidelines and standards.
  • Performs other related duties, as required.
