About The Position

Overview The Radiologic Technologist performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishments of their imaging needs by obtaining visual information for use in interpretation and diagnosis by physicians. Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an AMA approved school.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and;
  • Completion of training courses in Ultrasound Technology, Nuclear Medicine and CT scan where available.
  • Must maintain state licenses as required.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electrical shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
  • Responsible for safe handling of equipment and films.
  • Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic and/ fluoroscopic examinations.
  • Assesses patient’s understanding of process and informed consent of invasive procedures.
  • Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.
  • Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.
  • Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and makes radiograms for a variety of examinations.
  • In accordance with prescribed procedures, may be required to develop exposed film.
  • Prepare and replace developing and fixing solutions according to standard formulas.
  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic techniques.
  • Maintains films and records as requied.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family.
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population.
  • Identifies differences between healthy and pathological areas, and judges if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Attaches identification tag to radiographs, recorder printout, tapes or disks to insure maintenance of patient’s records.
  • Performs mammography exams according to FDA, ACR, and state agency guidelines, if certified to do so.
  • Transports patients to and from nursing units including emergency department.
  • Prepare/inject [as certified] opaque compounds [contrast media] for IV administration.
  • Mix and administer chemical mixtures orally or as enemas to render organs of the body more opaque.
  • Must rotate on-call duties as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
