Represents the interests of the department and hospital on committees and other public forums. Functions with the policies and procedures of the Health System.

Requirements

  • Work requires graduation from an accredited formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology Program (may substitute with ARDMS certification on or before December 31, 2000).
  • Four years of experience in Cardiac Sonography is required.
  • ARDMS or CCI certification in Pediatric Echocardiography
  • BLS certification
  • BLS certification, Supervision, Scheduling, Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor degree preferred
  • Two years of team leader or applicable supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Fetal Echocardiography certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in complex technical activities associated with the operation of modality-specific equipment in the Pediatric Echo Lab in accordance with prescribed safety procedures.
  • Plan and schedule work for the assigned unit ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.
  • Assist with scheduling patients for imaging examinations; set up and explain imaging procedures; position patients for each anatomical view specified using positioning assistance devices and protective equipment as required; report any changes in patient's condition to attending physician.
  • Assist in the formulation and revision of protocols to maintain established standards of image quality.
  • Review and compile as needed statistical reports and analyses reflecting operational activities.
  • Provide technical assistance, instruction and consultation to students and employees.
  • Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
  • Represent the department on various committees, at meetings and conferences.
  • Develop and foster collaboration among clinical departments and affiliated services to ensure an integrated and coordinated approach to providing Imaging services and resolution of customer complaints or problems.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to resolve problems and provide advice concerning technical procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Maintain liaison with physicians, research personnel, and staff to resolve problems and to advise concerning technical procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Collaboration with accredited sonographer schools to support Duke's mission, provide personal and professional growth for staff, and provide precepted experiences to increase the candidate pool for potential Duke hires.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
