RADIOLOGY STUDENT TECHNOLOGIST Job Summary: Under the supervision of Certified Technologist, a Radiology Student Technologist can perform the following job functions based on modality. Essential functions all modalities: Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives. Takes thorough and accurate patient medical histories. Provides assistance with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients. Transports patients via appropriate mode (wheelchair, cart, etc.) Communicates effectively both in writing and verbally. Diagnostic X-RAY modality: Performs radiological testing according to Department procedures. Under supervision uses all radiological equipment. Reviews and evaluates digital x-rays, video tape, or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff. Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan. Operates or oversees operation of radiological equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table. Positions imaging equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination. Keys commands and data into computer to document and specify scan sequences, adjust transmitters and receivers, or photograph certain images. Monitors patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician. Sets up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready. With supervision prepares and administers oral or injected contrast media to patients. Under supervision operates fluoroscope to aid physicians to view and guide wire or catheter through blood vessels to area of interest. Records, processes, and maintains patient data and treatment records, and prepare reports. CT modality: Positions patient on CT table. Loads contrast into the injector. Prepares and administers injected contrast media to patients, with supervision. Starts IVs. MRI modality: Uses magnetic resonance imaging safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff. Performs MRI screening. Starts IVs. Positions patients on MRI table and set up coils. Places reminder calls. Verifies orders. Logs State paperwork. Prepares and administers injected contrast media to patients, with supervision. Ultrasound modality: Performs Ultrasound exams according to department procedures. Uses all ultrasound equipment safely and appropriately under supervision. Explains procedures and obtains medical history from patients. Follows ultrasound specific protocols and obtains quality diagnostic images. Prepares technologist worksheets utilizing the appropriate document based on examination. Checks images and/or reviews case with supervising sonographer or radiologist as needed. Makes appointment reminder calls. Utilizes proper phone etiquette when taking calls or messages. Triages add on examinations to accommodate patients in a safe and timely manner. Monitors patients' condition and reactions during procedures and notifies physician or nurse of any reactions or concerns. Records, processes, and maintains patient data and treatment records per department procedure. Reviews and documents any prior exam data or pertinent lab values on the technologist worksheet. Enters additional exam data into external reporting software programs as per department process. Starts and Completes exams following department protocols.
