Provides primary health care services in medical imaging with physician supervision. Under the supervision, guidance and direction of the physician, exercises autonomy in decision making in the role of a primary health care provider with regard to patient assessment, patient management and in providing a broad range of radiology diagnostic and interventional services. Responsibilities Position Summary: Provides primary health care services in medical imaging with physician supervision. Under the supervision, guidance and direction of the physician, exercises autonomy in decision making in the role of a primary health care provider with regard to patient assessment, patient management and in providing a broad range of radiology diagnostic and interventional services. Typical Duties: - Evaluates the schedule of procedures with the supervising physician and determines where his/her skills will be best utilized. - Performs procedures including, but not limited to: Fluoroscopic procedures (static and dynamic), Ultrasound, Computed Tomography or Fluoroscopic guided biopsies, Ultrasound, Computed Tomography or Fluoroscopic guided drainages and drainage catheter placements, Arthrograms, Myelograms, Vascular Access Procedures (Arteriograms, Venograms), Venous Access Procedures (Declots, Permacath Placements, Central Line Placement), IVC Filter Placement, Fistulagrams, Gastrostomies, GI Studies, Urograms, VCUG, and Retrograde Urethrograms. - Obtains clinical history from patient or medical record. - Evaluates medical images, reviews preliminary reports and images with supervising physician, and prepares technical reports that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising physician. - Assesses and evaluates the physiologic and psychological responsiveness of each patient. - Participates in patient management, including prescriptive powers for acquisition of additional imaging procedures, following review with the supervising physician. - Obtains consent for and administers and/or orders intravenous medications and contrast media, under the supervision of a physician. - Participates in facility quality assurance program. - Checks medical record for pre-procedure lab results. - Communicates the reports of radiologist's findings to a referring physician or an appropriate representative with appropriate documentation. - Determines appropriateness of ordered medical imaging examinations and procedures.
