About The Position

Delivers quality nursing care to meet the health, physical, emotional, and educational needs of a patient undergoing a diagnostic or minor radiologic procedure. Plans and provides unique and individualized comfort measures utilizing intuitive and innovative approaches which are scientifically based. Fosters an environment to include the core mission. Assesses patient condition and status by interviewing patient, performing physical examination, and continuously monitoring the patients condition and ability to tolerate the diagnostic exam. Reviews medical history and records addresses any potential problems prior to testing, discussing all concerns with the physician before, during and, or after the diagnostic exam/procedure. Facilitates communication of information to all members of the health team. Assists patients and families to understand the current diagnostic exam and alternatives when appropriate. Provides information and interpretation of the patient's condition and offers coping mechanisms. Assesses how much information a patient wants and needs using a vocabulary and approach that enables the patient to comprehend given information. Formulates and documents a discharge plan that maximizes the patient's ability to continue with all ADL's after their exam. Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patient's control and participation during all aspect of testing. Collaborates with radiologist, administrative director and modality staff to discuss alternatives to care in preparation for their diagnostic exam. Develops an individualized teaching plan independently and incorporates aspects of cultural diversity specific to the patient as required. Confers with the radiologist, and modality administration/ staff regarding special needs of patient and family upon arrival and discharge. Integrates assessment and diagnostic information with intuition to foresee potential age-specific healthcare needs. Anticipates deterioration while recognizing the importance of reacting quickly before the evidence is convincing in terms of changes in vital signs and measurable outcomes. Thoroughly and accurately documents clinical changes, interventions, and outcomes both expected and unexpected. Ensures handoff communication includes a report in terms of the situations most likely to develop and the problems awaiting resolution between the in and out patient setting Administers medications accurately and safely. Documents patient's records according to the nursing process, ANA Code for Nurses, and Capital Health System Patient Services Division Standards of Practice. Performs, teaches, and demonstrates technical skills specific to diagnostic services. Proactively identifies issues to be resolved related to patient education for medication management. Participates in various aspects of unit based chart review and patient services performance improvement activities related to documentation, complications, and other clinical outcomes as identified. Facilitates appropriate response from other health team members using a clear and convincing rationale. Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care, identifies problems, and initiates and documents improvement of care. Advocates on behalf of patient while using clear and convincing rationale to lead the response or treatment needed to meet the patients needs. Participates in the evaluation of unit standards of care and identification of actual or potential problems. Follows established policies and procedures for attendance, punctuality, and continuing education. Utilizes non-productive time efficiently and has not received any disciplinary action related to non-productive time. Performs other duties as assigned and possesses a willingness to adapt to changing department demands. Displays participation in unit and hospital committees.
