About The Position

The Radiology Technical Assistant is a member of the Radiology Patient Care team. The Radiology Technical Assistant transports and prepares patients, cleans and stocks supplies in assigned areas, and assists technologists as needed. This position utilizes McKesson Radiology Manager (MRM) and Hospital Information System (HIS) software programs, and assists with Computed Radiology (CR) processing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Responsibilities

  • Transport and prepare patients for radiology procedures.
  • Clean and stock supplies in assigned areas.
  • Assist technologists as needed during imaging procedures.
  • Utilize McKesson Radiology Manager (MRM) and Hospital Information System (HIS) software programs.
  • Assist with Computed Radiology (CR) processing.
  • Move or transport patients between hospital departments via wheelchair, stretcher, or beds.
  • Initiate and follow through with proper hand-off of patients.
  • Report to nursing personnel prior to transporting and upon return of patient.
  • Use portable O tanks and regulate O flow.
  • Practice good infection control in accordance with related policies.
  • Comply with radiation safety protocols.
  • Greet patients and families to ensure comfort using AIDET technique.
  • Attend to patients' needs and report to a Technologist if unable to accommodate requests.
  • Use SBAR tool to communicate with Nurse and/or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) before transporting every patient.
  • Ensure call bell is given to each patient along with verbal instructions.
  • Answer telephone and refer calls to the proper areas.
  • Assist the technologist in the imaging room by lifting and moving the patient while assuring patient dignity and comfort.
  • Maintain cleanliness and neatness of equipment and work area.
  • Transport patients to/from imaging using appropriate body mechanics and devices.
  • Clean equipment after every patient per the Infection Control Policy.
  • Ensure supplies are available and stocked in appropriate areas.
  • Prepare CDs.
  • Demonstrate awareness of appropriate confidentiality rules and regulations.
  • Provide care appropriate to the age, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient served.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
