About The Position

As a Radiologist Technologist at Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario, Oregon, within the Oregon Department of Corrections, you will perform diagnostic radiology procedures according to practitioner orders and within licensure limits. You will also assist in health care and laboratory areas as needed. This role involves developing and implementing operational procedures for the department's facilities in line with Board of Radiology rules and community standards, maintaining current knowledge of techniques, and ensuring quality services through a quality assurance program. You will also be responsible for accurate record-keeping of x-ray activities and patient reports, consulting with practitioners, and providing services across various facilities. The position requires compliance with radiation exposure regulations and may involve providing emergency services outside of normal hours. You will also assist with budget preparation and work within correctional setting guidelines.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist with the American Registry for Radiological Technologists
  • A valid Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist license issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging at the time of appointment OR other authorization issued by the Board of Medical Imaging to practice diagnostic radiologic technology in the following categories: head, upper extremities, lower extremities, chest and ribs, abdomen and spine
  • General Knowledge of Techniques and procedures of radiography
  • General Knowledge of Proper positioning and shielding of patients to obtain needed x‑ray results
  • General Knowledge of Anatomy and physiology as it relates to radiography
  • General Knowledge of Care, operation maintenance, and repair of radiographic equipment
  • General Knowledge of Procedures and materials used in developing radiographic films
  • General Knowledge of Phlebotomy and proper sample collection and labeling
  • General Knowledge of Math for equipment exposure calculations
  • General Knowledge of Radiation safety, rules, and regulations
  • General Knowledge of Formulation of technique charts
  • General Knowledge of Infection control and sterile techniques

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic radiology procedures in accordance with practitioner’s orders and within limits of licensure
  • Assist in the health care and laboratory areas when needed
  • Develop and implement operational procedures for the department’s facilities in accordance with Board of Radiology rules and community standards
  • Maintain current knowledge of proper techniques and procedures, as related to radiography and developing films
  • Attend continuing education programs and professional affiliations, required for maintenance of licensure
  • Continually monitor the quality of services performed through a quality assurance program and by working with consultants and the practitioner
  • Maintain accurate, concise records of all department x-ray activities and required statistical data
  • Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of patient x-rays and reports by keeping a current and accurate filing system by filing, reviewing, and pulling information as necessary
  • Consult with practitioners regarding questions or specific patient problems
  • Provide services at a variety of facilities
  • Schedule activities through the Nurse Manager, Outpatient Services, or Support Services Supervisor
  • Comply with all rules and regulations regarding personal radiation exposure for self or other staff members
  • Review quality of services with community consultant as necessary
  • Provide emergency services as necessary outside of normal work schedule as directed by supervisor
  • Perform mathematical calculation and formulate technique chart to obtain proper exposure during radiographic examination
  • Provide patient teaching and assist patient in obtaining proper position to perform x-ray examination
  • Assist with budget preparation; provide input to develop and propose service alternatives such as expansion of level of service or improve the quality of service
  • Perform work according to guidelines and procedures for maintenance of a secure environment in the correctional setting
