About The Position

The Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) performs selected radiology examinations and procedures under the supervision of a radiologist, ensuring patient management and assessment care in a diagnostic and therapeutic imaging environment. This role is critical in providing high-quality imaging services while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Registered Radiologist Assistant in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologist Assistant program required.
  • Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
  • Licensed by the Kentucky Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient for possible contraindications such as history, medications, pregnancy, and psychological status.
  • Review patient record and other information to verify appropriateness of procedure.
  • Interview patient to obtain, verify, or update medical history.
  • Explain procedure including risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up, and any required pharmaceuticals.
  • Obtain or verify informed consent and confirm adequate exam preparation.
  • Perform physical exam and evaluate lab studies as needed, reporting findings to the radiologist.
  • Administer local anesthetic, select and insert needle, catheter, or tube to required location, collect fluids, and measure pressures as needed while maintaining an aseptic environment.
  • Prepare and administer contrast agents prescribed by the radiologist.
  • Position patient and operate fluoro unit, modifying procedure as necessary, observing and evaluating structure and function, and documenting fluoroscopy time.
  • Monitor patient status and respond as needed to discomfort, drug reactions, or cardiac distress.
  • Evaluate procedure for completeness and diagnostic quality, recommending additional images as required and communicating initial observations to the radiologist.
  • Educate patient regarding follow-up care and verify comprehension.
  • Document procedure and record exceptions from established protocol.
  • Evaluate final images and use measuring tools for analysis.
  • Export images to server, secure website, or report.
