About The Position

The primary purpose of the Radiological Technician I position is to provide x-ray services for inpatients and outpatients of the University Hospital. Performs radiographic procedures and other functions related to the production of x-rays of accurate and diagnostic radiographs for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment throughout the performance of his/her duties and maintains a demeanor that supports the values and mission of The University Hospital. Contributes and functions as a cohesive member of the department, ensuring that all interaction with patients, physicians, nurses, administrators, and other members of the hospital staff are professional and in accordance with the established guidelines of the institution. Performs procedures in compliance with NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) standards and the principals of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).

Requirements

  • Must possess a current NJ Department of Environmental Protection Diagnostic Radiography license and current ARRT certification or be ARRT eligible.
  • One (1) year of experience in Diagnostic Radiology preferred.
  • Computer literacy.
  • The successful candidate will be trained to become proficient in Bone Density scans and maintain valid certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR.
  • The individual must be able to pass a medical evaluation and a respirator fit test and wear an N95 particulate filter respirator mask in accordance with PEOSHA standards as a condition of employment.
  • Annual Respirator Fit Testing required.

Responsibilities

  • Explains the exam to the patient according to age-specific needs to gain cooperation, minimize anxiety, and optimize desired results.
  • Selects appropriate protocol and technique for exam.
  • Positions and images patients according to approved departmental protocols.
  • Determines proper and satisfactory radiographic technique exposure factors.
  • Verifies informed consent where required.
  • Scan and access patient record via Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archive Communications System (PACS).
  • Access images for review on the computed Radiography (CR) and from PACS.
  • Follows departmental protocol to start up equipment.
  • Practices radiation protection by employing principles of time, distance and shielding for patient and self.
  • Correctly positions x-ray tube for each projection.
  • Utilizes immobilization devices, lead shielding, and collimation as appropriate.
  • Operates fluoroscopy tower and ensures the use of fluoroscopic controls as per departmental guidelines.
  • Ensures that machines are functional according to manufacturer specification before use.
  • Adheres to and assures that Radiation Safety practices for patient, self, and others are in compliance with NJ DEP standards and the principals of ALARA.
