About The Position

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Radiological Protection Technician located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska. Position closes December 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until filled. The major responsibility of the Radiological Protection (RP) Technician is to monitor and maintain the following as specified in the individual employee training plan: radwaste processing, decontamination, environmental controls, and personnel safety. RP Technicians perform radiation and contamination surveys thus protecting plant systems, the general public, and meeting regulatory requirements. This position will report to the applicable RP Supervisor. This position will be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared. Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.

Requirements

  • Must be qualified to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) N18.1-1971 requirements.
  • Must be able to qualify to the specific employee training plan developed for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide protection of personnel and the environment from unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Monitor and maintain strict controls on the spread of radioactive contamination.
  • Ensure the safe handling of radioactive material.
  • Ensure compliance with standards, procedures, and the code of federal regulations.
  • Document and maintain accurate records for equipment calibrations, radiation safety surveys, and radiological analysis results.
  • Collect and analyze samples from various plant systems for evaluations.
  • Perform routine radiological surveys to evaluate workplace hazards.
  • Provide controls and guidance for workers in areas with elevated hazards.
  • Perform inspections of plant areas to ensure adequate housekeeping and compliance with regulations.
  • Provide back shift coverage to meet emergency plan requirements.
