The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for operating X-ray and fluoroscopic equipment under the direction of the Medical Director/Physician. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Set up and operate radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients Select proper ionizing factors for radiologic diagnosis Position the patient appropriately and configure the equipment to optimize the x-ray quality for the specific body area requested by the physician Protect patients and personnel from radiation hazards by taking precautions to minimize exposure Adjust radiographic controls, including kilovoltage and milliamperage, to prescribed specifications for accurate exposure timing Regulate the length and intensity of film exposure Implements infection control procedures for the work area Check X-ray for clarity of image, and retakes X-rays when needed Distribute films to appropriate medical staff and transfer images to electronic medical records (EMR) Maintain quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and facility policy Perform radiographic procedures for patients in surgery Clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining repairs needed equipment Maintain radiographic supplies, film, and equipment Assure that all materials and other required equipment, are present and in working order Follow all safety rules, reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards Communicate with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements Adhere to the company standards of business conduct Performs other duties as assigned as per discretion of medical provider and facility KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnostic radiographic procedures Knowledge of basic chemistry, film apparatus, and film processing techniques Knowledge of human anatomy, how disease and injuries are diagnosed and imaged radiographically Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications Strong attention to detail, being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks Ability to set up and operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment Ability to lift and position patients for the type of X-ray procedure Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment Ability to maintain composure, keep emotions in check, control anger, and avoid aggressive behavior, in difficult situations Ability to maintain a calm and helpful attitude, even under times of stress, taking appropriate and reasonable steps to resolve issues Ability to perform high quality radiology procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner Ability to adapt, being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace Ability to work independently, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, depending on oneself to get things done Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow Ability to maintain accurate patient records Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities and/or the patient’s condition changes Must have reliable transportation for traveling if necessary Compliance with facility policies and procedures Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or Associates Degree in Radiology Studies Licensed by the Medical State Board of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) Certified by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) One (1) year of radiology experience in a healthcare facility Quantum Pain and Orthopedics is a premier outpatient clinical network serving the San Antonio and Austin, TX areas.
