About The Position

The XRAY TECH operates x-ray and auxiliary equipment to process images and maintains and cleans the equipment. This role involves preparing patients for exams, relieving pre-testing anxiety by translating examination procedures into layman's terms, and ensuring that consent forms are obtained when necessary. The XRAY TECH performs various x-ray exams according to established standards and departmental procedures, positions patients for radiographs, and adjusts immobilization devices as needed. They also monitor patients' conditions during procedures and report any abnormalities to the Radiologist. Additionally, the XRAY TECH is responsible for processing and maintaining exposed images, labeling films for identification, and ensuring proper documentation is completed.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology program, required.
  • New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration, required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience performing radiologic exams, required.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for exam and alleviates pre-testing anxiety by explaining procedures in layman's terms.
  • Ensures consent form for procedure is obtained if necessary.
  • Performs various x-ray exams according to established standards and procedures.
  • Positions patient for taking radiographs according to departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Arranges, attaches, or adjusts immobilization and supportive devices for patients.
  • Adjusts x-ray equipment and operates controls to obtain correct exposure.
  • Monitors patient’s condition in accordance with technical and safety standards.
  • Recognizes and promptly reports patient’s motor abnormalities to the Radiologist.
  • Keys in patient history data and other pertinent information from requisition.
  • Operates equipment for transferring computed images to film and archival of disc memory to tape.
  • Processes and maintains exposed images, labeling films for identification and maintaining required records.
  • Utilizes film markers and ensures images are properly marked as the right or left side.
  • Ensures images are legibly labeled with correct date and patient identification.
  • Enters the exam onto the daily log sheet as needed.
  • Completes the correct tracking steps for each examination.
  • Performs related duties as required.
