About The Position

The Student Multi-Modality Radiologic Technologist is responsible for preparing examinations under the direction of a specialized physician, resident or certified technologist in the modality of study. The Intern/Student will focus on patient safety, required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of Eskenazi Health. This includes scheduling patients, reviewing medical history, preparing patients and equipment, and relating results to supervisor.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited imaging program
  • Maintains CPR Certification
  • If applicable, must hold a state student license from ISDH

  • Knowledge and command of anatomy as well as cross sectional anatomy
  • Knowledge of the physics
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served; ability to use age-appropriate communication skills
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span; ability to assess data and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and cognitive abilities detailed in the department/area/unit job competencies
  • Knowledge of all equipment, drug utilization and technical procedures (within assigned area)
  • Working knowledge of the EPIC and PACS systems and associated programs; ensures completion of all studies through EPIC
  • Knowledge of hospital protocols and procedures, and safety procedures to minimize risk to patients, coworkers, and self
  • Knowledgeable of and compliance with Eskenazi Health’s Infection Control and Communicable Disease policies and procedures
  • Ability to follow both written and oral instructions
  • Ability to handle patient contacts with high degree of tact
  • Fundamental knowledge of computer applications
  • Ability to be flexible with changing work duties and priorities
  • Ability to observe and perceive changing patient conditions, and to report questionable conditions to physicians and nursing personnel
  • Ability to work effectively under stress and heavy workload
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments, i.e., decisions must be made to determine how quickly a case needs to be scheduled for an examination

Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health’s values
  • Schedules and educates patients
  • Reviews requisition, patient's medical chart, and records oral history from patient to define reason for diagnostic examination
  • Prepares examination including: positioning and preparing patients for examinations, determining appropriate equipment to be used, setting and modifying controls during procedure for optimal scanning results, and observing patients
  • Maintains supplies required for daily use
  • Assists technologists or physicians in performing special examinations, emergency medical care and research projects
