About The Position

This position operates or oversees operation of radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. The Radiological Technologist is responsible for monitoring and maintaining essential patient care and safety including practicing ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable). This position performs all duties required as a Radiologic Technologist. The technologist is a 40 hour Staff technologist and will assist in maintaining department technologist licensures/CEU's are up to date. In coordination with the Community College, those responsibilities are listed below:

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiological technology program.
  • Registered by the ARRT or registry eligible. Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Radiation Control Program. Must maintain licensure on an annual basis.
  • CPR certification.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Thoroughly knowledgeable in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English with patients to explain procedures while making them as comfortable as possible.
  • Ability to follow and comply with procedures, policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate with medical staff, personnel, students, and patients.
  • Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.

  • Prior experience as a Radiology Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all Quality Control policies and procedures for compliance with departmental, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations, hospital policy, and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Greets patients politely and efficiently.
  • Takes thorough and accurate patient medical histories.
  • Clearly explains procedures to patients in English and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.
  • Seeks out interpreter services if needed.
  • Sets up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functioning.
  • Prepares and administers oral or injected contrast media to patients as required.
  • Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table and ensures that a quality diagnostic image is produced.
  • Follows sterile techniques according to hospital policy.
  • Operates or positions imaging equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.
  • Monitors patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
  • Reviews and evaluates images or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Dates, labels and marks images according to hospital policy.
  • Records, processes and maintains patient data, documents and treatment records, and sends to PACS.
  • Collaborates with other medical team and administrative staff members, such as physicians and nurses to conduct special procedures or complete administrative duties.
  • Informs supervisor of equipment problems or supply needs.
  • Performs all duties with strict adherence to and compliance with government regulations, hospital policies and procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Works with students and follows all guidelines and policies associated with students.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
  • Provide students with modality rotations, i.e routine radiographic, portables, fluoro, OR, ER, etc .
  • Need to document check offs, competencies and performance evaluation in Trajecsys in a timely manner.
  • Provide student support in the way of informal classes reviewing newly learned positioning and ensuring they understand your facilities protocols and processes.
  • Attend monthly faculty meetings whenever possible ( onsite and remote meetings, we have 1 per semester in person).
  • Communicate with QCC Clinical Coordinator and Program Director regarding any concerns or issues or accolades including checking QCC emails for policy or program updates.
