Requirements

  • Experience in performing radiological exams and phlebotomy.
  • Knowledge of pediatric care and age-specific competency in data collection.
  • Ability to interact with patients and families considering their developmental level and needs.
  • Familiarity with infection control regulations and maintaining a clean work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate quality patient care by performing radiological exams, phlebotomy, and simple laboratory exams as requested.
  • Perform initial patient/family intake as outlined in specific standards in an appropriate time frame.
  • Prepare patient rooms for admission.
  • Collect initial and ongoing data on patients as directed by the RN using clinic standards to provide baseline information for the plan of care and document.
  • Demonstrate age-specific competency in data collection of patients by obtaining and interpreting information in terms of patient needs.
  • Facilitate patient flow under the direction of the RN.
  • Report information to the appropriate person(s) in an appropriate time frame and document data accurately.
  • Perform routine radiographic examinations as requested by physicians to facilitate diagnosis in accordance with department procedure manual.
  • Prepare patient rooms including equipment set-up, supplies, immobilization devices, lead shields, and isolation procedure requirements.
  • Educate patients/parents to allay apprehension and elicit cooperation during the exam.
  • Transport patients to and from the radiology area to facilitate timely completion of patient exams as requested.
  • Calculate and select proper technical factors, positioning, and film markings based on patient age, physical condition, and suspected pathology.
  • Process radiographs and evaluate them for technical quality.
  • Prepare radiographs for interpretation by Radiologist; record pertinent patient data.
  • Maintain documentation logs and retrieve film reports as requested.
  • Implement care activities according to Physician/RN direction to facilitate improvement in patient's condition.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate care for infant, toddler, preschool, school age, and adolescent patients.
  • Interact with patient/family according to child's developmental level and identified needs.
  • Consider cultural, cognitive, emotional, and social influences on the patient/family's ability and readiness.
  • Perform lab controls at designated times and log information in appropriate areas.
  • Provide care in accordance with physician orders and the RN's request within the plan of care.
  • Perform or assist with unit tests and procedures accurately and in a timely manner as directed by the RN, document and report results.
  • Ensure proper functioning and order of the work area by notifying manager of equipment failures and monitoring inventory of supplies used.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion to comply with infection control regulations and present a professional environment to patients/families.
