Work Shift Shift: PRN Travel required to assist with gaps in X‑ray coverage across Adult Orthopedic practices Job Summary: Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care to the patient by performing all radiologic exams provided by the department according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions the patient for the procedure. Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Works with students during their clinical rotation.

Requirements

Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology
ARRT Radiography
Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS Instructor
Minimum 5 years’ experience as ARRT in an acute care or ambulatory setting
Must exhibit excellent communication skills because this position requires frequent verbal and written communication with physicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff and nursing staff.
Must be able to explain or give directions to maintain goodwill and obtain cooperation.
Must function independently and under pressure while still participating actively in a team environment.
Must consistently demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
Must perform effectively in a stressful, fast‑paced environment.
Must be able to prioritize appropriately.

Competent in all aspects of Diagnostic Radiology, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.

Responsibilities

Patient Care Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media so that no patient condition deteriorates and no pain occurs due to error or poor technique (if applicable).
Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and right/left markers appropriately placed.
Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
Responds to emergency situations and restocks crash cart and maintains life‑support equipment (if applicable).
Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed (if applicable).
Observes patient condition and evaluates when physician intervention is necessary so that no patient condition deteriorates.
Verifies two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical order prior to performing a procedure per policy.
Ensures patient privacy and comfort is accommodated.
Demonstrates competence in applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
Organizes schedule, time and priorities to ensure timely completion of required activities.
Uses critical thinking skills.
Asks clarifying questions.
Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
Understands, demonstrates and documents pre‑procedural verification and Time‑Out when appropriate (if applicable).
Demonstrates and understands pre‑ and post‑procedural care.
Preps the patient for the procedure.
Demonstrates and understands sterile technique (if applicable).
Maintains competency with venipuncture where applicable.
Equipment Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique to ensure the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider to ensure timely correction.
Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy and department schedule.
Ability to operate all aspects of the system.
Ability to safely and competently operate all radiographic equipment, ensuring equipment is not abused and is left in good working order.
Education and Communication Patiently and clearly explains exam purpose and nature to patient prior to procedure using AIDET to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation.
Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when necessary prior to procedure.
Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees.
Provides patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
Required documentation is concise, legible and precise.
Reads email each scheduled workday and follows through with assignments.
Completes mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education without prompting.
Quality Control Consistently produces high‑quality images, including proper collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration and positioning.
Ensures equipment is fully operational prior to each use by checking calibration and deficiencies.
Sends all studies to PACS; prints CDs as necessary.
Ensures exams are complete in RIS, oriented, marked, labeled and accurately noted.
Prints and scans after‑hours teleradiography studies into PACS (if applicable).
Checks for prior exams and ensures they are loaded and properly labeled prior to sending to PACS.
Operations Restocks linens and supplies and maintains Diagnostic Imaging Services in a clean and orderly condition.
Transports patients, positions patients and assists them on/off the procedure table.
Performs patient charging activities on the day service is rendered.
Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
Willingly shares knowledge and assists coworkers as needed and when time allows.
Performs clerical and support duties as required to ensure continuity and quality of services.
Keeps supervisor informed of responsibilities and promptly reports problems or potential concerns.
Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to coworkers.
Maintains Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
Ability to transfer/retrieve images on the PACS system.
Takes call when necessary.
Any other duties as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
