About The Position

The Radiologic Technologist Extern position is designed for individuals currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology. This part-time role involves supporting imaging technologists with the preparation of patients and examination rooms prior to, during, and following imaging procedures, adhering to established infection control practices. The extern will assist in patient care, manage imaging equipment, and ensure accurate documentation of patient records. The position requires a commitment to learning and applying knowledge of radiologic procedures under the supervision of licensed professionals.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 120 days of graduation.
  • Completion of a minimum of 12 months training in an accredited program in Radiology.
  • Successful completion and documentation of clinical competencies in various radiographic procedures.
  • Good communication and patient care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supports imaging technologists with preparation of patient and examination room prior to, during, and following imaging procedures.
  • Organizes and prepares exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, and maintaining equipment.
  • Verifies patient identification using two identifiers and communicates with patients to explain procedures.
  • Assists patients in preparation for exams and transferring patients to and from exam rooms.
  • Independently transports patients to other areas of the facility as required.
  • Uses radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information.
  • Reviews patients' medical records to obtain necessary clinical information.
  • Positions patients and selects exposure factors for various radiologic examinations under supervision.
  • Ensures that images and other patient records are accurately documented in SmartChart, RIS, and PACS.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
