About The Position

Radiologic Technologist 2 are responsible for use of complex radiographic equipment in completing specialized diagnostic studies within the main hospital or other specialty areas of a large and diversified department of radiology. Employees in this classification operate highly specialized equipment to produce studies such as aortograms, angiocardiograms or other special procedures which combine bi-plane seriography and cineradiography.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Associate's degree in Radiology Technology is required. Any Employee who will be performing Point of Care and testing in the Operating Room, Neuro ICU, NICU, PICU, Pedi-ER, Cath Lab and/or Interventional Radiology areas, the educational degree must be verified at the time of hire. Minimum education level required to be verified is Associate's degree.
  • Valid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required.
  • Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 MUST obtain the required ARRT Certification by 12/31/2019. Employees who have completed training at JHS may be granted a grace period of 6 months upon hire to obtain the required certification. Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment

  • Experience as Radiologic Technologist within operating room, a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Produces radiographs of the chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, and other anatomical areas using x-ray equipment in the emergency room, fluoroscopy room, or other hospital locations, ensuring safe practices and sensitivity to age-specific patient needs.
  • Adjusts equipment angles and heights and positions patients according to departmental protocols.
  • Calculates technical factors for each patient to achieve radiographs with proper detail, density, and contrast for quality imaging.
  • Provides radiation protection in accordance with established safety standards.
  • Operates portable x-ray equipment as assigned and performs selected procedures in other radiology areas when requested.
  • Receives on-the-job training in specialized technical areas and attends in-service programs to learn new equipment and advanced techniques.
  • Supervises technologists and ancillary personnel in the absence of the supervisor or in collaboration with the supervisor, using sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Ensures quality control of all radiographs produced and participates in the department's CQI program.
  • Uses immobilization devices as needed while adhering to age-specific safety standards.
  • Assists physicians in administering contrast materials.
  • Develops films and replaces processing solutions as required by workload.
  • Maintains safety standards at all times.
  • Completes required reports and records accurately.
  • Reports equipment repair needs promptly.
  • Serves as supervisor of diagnostic areas during weekend duty when required.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and provides reassurance throughout procedures.
  • Performs basic patient-care duties, addressing physical and psychological age-specific needs during imaging.
  • Initiates life-supporting measures when necessary.
  • Participates in training radiologic technology students by demonstrating techniques used in advanced procedures.
  • Evaluates and grades students as assigned.
  • Completes laboratory records and reports.
  • Copies relevant clinical information from the medical record to the radiology request form.
  • Assists subordinate personnel with routine duties, including less specialized procedures, cleaning, daily maintenance, and patient transport.
  • Utilizes appropriate HIS computer system functions and ensures complete or incomplete procedures are properly recorded.
  • Complies with all safety rules, departmental protocols, and hospital regulations.
  • Maintains an understanding of growth and development principles.
  • Assesses patient data and interprets information to identify age-specific requirements.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
