JD Attached General Purpose of Job: Uses complex radiographic and imaging equipment requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in performing professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures to make specialized static and real-time images of the vascular, circulatory and cardiac systems of the human body, serving a patient population from Neonate, Infant, Toddler, Pre-school, School Age, Adolescent and Adult. Performs other related duties in the Cardiac Cath Lab including the preparation, loading and determination of the pressures to be used to inject opaque medium through angiographic catheters. Performs daily Q.C. and other related equipment quality control measures to verify proper operating parameters. Monitors all imaging equipment throughout the procedure. Assists and supervises student technologists assigned to section. Assumes responsibility for designated areas, procedures and for radiation protection and safety of the patient being examined. Actively participates in Hospital / Department QA / CQI (Process Improvement) activities with a focus on providing input regarding improving the quality of patient care services in the facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: continued Produces high quality diagnostic imaging procedures, recognizing the varying physical and psychological needs of patients in a pediatric environment. Operates and maintains all fluoroscopic, radiographic and angiographic equipment, to include digital recording equipment, angiographic injector. Prepares sterile field and set up trays, prep and drape patients ensuring all catheters, guidewires, sheaths, and pertinent supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly. Prepares IV / IA contrast for injection (by Cardiologist / Radiologist) ensuring that the dosage / concentration / type and expiration are appropriate for the examination to be preformed. Preforms duties to record and monitor hemodynamic cath data, cardiac cath Excel log, calculations, Angiographic measurements and creating and completing congenital cardiac diagrams. Preforms scrub duties in all areas of Diagnostic and Interventional catheterizations; Cardiac, Neuro, Vascular, Peripheral, Electrophysiology and Pacemaker / ICD’s. Assist with maintaining all Fire, Safety and Hazardous Waste regulations within the Cardiac Cath Lab area and be familiar with Fire and Disaster responsibilities. Assists in related duties in other areas of the department as assigned. Facilitates department operations through correct patient and procedure matching and completion of all patient logs, charge requisitions, and other paper work. Provides and uses appropriate radiation protection devices and techniques for patient and self. Demonstrates professionalism and utilizes communication skills effectively in working with parents, patients, physicians, and other personnel Maintains safety precautions to minimize radiation exposure to patients, other personnel, and self. Assists in the maintenance of all equipment in the department, including cleaning and reporting any possible malfunction. Prepares patient appropriately for Roentgenographic examination and fluoroscopy procedures as prescribed by patient's physician. Applies principles of radiology safety in the performance of position responsibilities. Participates in the formal and In-service training programs of the Department. Assists as assigned in the routine inspection of radiation protective garments [ lead aprons, gloves and shields ] verifying these garments are in good condition and adequate supply. Identifies ensures correct patients imaging is archived in the correct location and correct media. Assist with the collection of data for Cardiology related database(S). Practices good infection control techniques following hospital / department standards. Rotates duties of On-Call as required. Rotates duties at Fridays Cardiac Cath and Surgical Conference of operating Audio Visual equipment, setting up the conference room, and assisting physicians at the podium during conference(s). Performs other related duties as assigned. Until all children are well.
