About The Position
The Radiation Therapist at the Cancer Center Beckley is responsible for administering ionizing radiation to patients as per the prescriptions and instructions provided by the Radiation Oncologist. This role requires a high level of precision and adherence to safety protocols to ensure the well-being of patients undergoing radiation therapy. The therapist must maintain a thorough understanding of radiation therapy equipment and procedures, ensuring that all treatments are delivered accurately and safely. In addition to administering prescribed doses of radiation, the Radiation Therapist is tasked with reviewing patient prescriptions, diagnoses, and charts to validate patient identification before treatment. Accurate record-keeping is essential, as the therapist must document daily treatments, radiation dosages, equipment settings, and any patient reactions. The preparation of treatment rooms and equipment, including cleaning and disinfecting, is also a critical responsibility. The therapist must utilize appropriate immobilization devices and treatment accessories to ensure that treatment parameters are accurately reproduced. They are expected to maintain communication with patients during treatment, addressing any concerns and providing reassurance as needed. The role also involves observing the clinical progress of patients and using clinical decision-making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications. Maintaining a safe work environment is paramount, and the therapist must adhere to the Radiation Therapist Code of Ethics while practicing confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with HIPAA requirements. Consistent attendance is required to meet the needs of patients and the facility, and the therapist may be assigned additional duties as necessary.
