Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Radiation Therapy
  • NYS licensure registration in Radiologic Technology Radiation Therapy
  • ARRT Radiation Therapy certification taken within 4 months, and passed within 6 months of employment.
  • CPR certification within the first three months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Administer radiation treatment of prescribed dose to the designated area to include reproducing patient position and plan parameters for each day of treatment.
  • Perform patient simulations in collaboration with the radiation oncologist
  • Fabricate immobilization devices
  • Capture XVI and/or portal images as outlined in the treatment plan
  • Measure diode readings as requested by the physician to verify treatment accuracy
  • Accurately document treatment details and patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Schedule patients for treatment and simulation sessions
  • Ensure accurate charge capture and billing for all procedures performed
  • Fabricate blocks and cutouts for electron treatments as needed
  • Perform daily morning warm-up and quality assurance checks on treatment equipment
  • Alert the physician and nurse to any complications or patient concerns observed during treatment
  • Operate the CT Big Bore for simulation and radiation planning purposes
  • Participate in weekly chart rounds, monthly staff meetings, and other assigned departmental meetings
  • Adhere to department scheduling requirements and demonstrate flexibility to meet patient care needs
