Job Description: Radiation Therapist Benefits Effective First Day of Employment Sign on Bonus Summary The Radiation Therapist will report to Arizona Blood and Cancer Specialists’ Lead Radiation Therapist This role will be responsible for administering radiation therapy as directed by the radiation oncologist according to established practices and standards. Duties may include reviewing prescription and other treatment information; communicate basic information between the radiation oncologist and the patient; preparing equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices; and maintaining records, reports, and files.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy technology program.
  • Minimum three years actively practicing as an RTT.
  • ARRT certification required.
  • Must hold valid Arizona radiation therapy license

Responsibilities

  • Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others.
  • Follow universal precautions in patient care.
  • Review prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification.
  • Position patients for treatment with accuracy according to prescription.
  • Administer prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards.
  • Maintain records, reports and files as required, including such information as radiation dosages, equipment settings and patients' reactions.
  • Conduct most treatment sessions independently, in accordance with the long-term treatment plan and under the general direction of the patient's physician.
  • Check radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • QA done as directed by medical physicist.
  • Observe and reassure patients during treatment and report unusual reactions to physician or turn equipment off if unexpected adverse reactions occur.
  • Prepare and construct equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices.
  • Act as liaison with physicist and supportive care personnel.
