Requirements

  • ARRT certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within two (2) years as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.
  • One (1) year of experience in radiation therapy, or practice experience as a part of training.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the prescription and assure that patients receive correct treatment.
  • Prepare or set up treatment field and deliver the treatment.
  • Observe and/or photograph patients for response and reaction to radiation or symptoms indicating change in the disease process and reporting abnormal changes to physician.
  • Obtain and record machine quality assurance data.
  • Calculate and verify dosages to be administered to all patients; perform computer dosimetry.
  • Schedule supportive procedures under direction of medical physicist.
  • Perform simulation or port imaging procedures with necessary film set up and film development.
  • Document treatment in patient chart.
  • Build molds, casts, or lead field limiting devices as required.
  • Act as clinical instructor for student radiologic technologists.
  • Ensure necessary information is available prior to treating a patient, e.g., a prescription, a patient's consent, checking of calculations.
  • May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
