About The Position

Uvalde Memorial Hospital is a cornerstone of health care in Uvalde, Texas, dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to our community. Our Radiation Oncology Department plays a critical role in cancer treatment by delivering precise, safe, and patient-centered radiation therapy services. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Radiation Therapist to join our team and support patients throughout their cancer treatment journey. The Radiation Therapist provides direct and indirect patient care in the Radiation Oncology Clinic by administering prescribed radiation treatments for cancer and other diseases. This role ensures accurate delivery of radiation therapy, patient safety, and high-quality clinical outcomes while maintaining compliance with regulatory and hospital standards. The Radiation Therapist works collaboratively with physicians and the oncology care team and reports directly to the Oncology Director.

Requirements

  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy required
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in Medical Radiologic Technology by the Texas State Department of Health required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers required
  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written); bilingual preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a patient-centered approach
  • High level of organization and ability to multitask in a clinical environment
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Ability to safely perform physical job demands, including standing, walking, lifting, and equipment handling

Responsibilities

  • Administer targeted doses of radiation therapy as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and patient safety
  • Assist in preparing sealed radioactive materials, calculating treatment dosages, and preparing immobilization and protective equipment
  • Develop and administer patient treatment plans using radiation therapy techniques and radiopharmaceuticals
  • Verify prescriptions, charts, calculations, and patient identity prior to treatment delivery
  • Ensure proper safety practices, including radiation protection and infection control standards
  • Perform daily quality assurance checks on equipment, including machine alignment, lasers, and interlocks, and maintain required records
  • Monitor patients during treatment and provide education, instruction, and emotional support to patients and families
  • Accurately document patient care and treatment information in the electronic health record in a timely manner
  • Coordinate care and communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members
  • Assist with scheduling, answering phones, and addressing patient concerns as appropriate
  • Maintain clinic policies, procedures, and a safe, therapeutic environment
  • Assist with supply management, cost containment, and training or mentoring staff as needed
  • Perform other duties within scope of practice as assigned
