About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Radiation Therapist Veterinary Technician! Are you a passionate technician looking to improve your skills in the veterinary field? Do you have a passion for Oncology? Have you been trained in Human Radiation Therapy and want to cross into Veterinary Medicine? Are you driven, dependable, committed, and knowledgeable? As a Radiation Therapist Veterinary Technician, you will be able to demonstrate the following: Understand the different types of radiation energies/modalities and appropriate uses for each Be comfortable running a Varian 2100 EX Clinac This linac is equipped with RapidArc and SRT technologies and on-board imaging (CBCT and KV/MV) Must be comfortable with performing daily and patient QA and have open lines of communication with physicists/ service engineers Must have working knowledge or ability to learn MOSAIQ record and verify system Ability to perform RT patient set-ups under the supervision of radiation oncologists Ability to administer appropriate radiation doses to patients under the supervision of radiation oncologists Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education. Ability to admit Oncology patients and obtain through history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration. Be willing/able to assist veterinary technicians in procedures outside of radiation administration, such as CT simulations The ideal candidate will be available to work 8 hours/day, 5 days/week (from 8am-4pm), but variations of this schedule can be considered If you are already a licensed veterinary technician, you must be willing to assist or oversee induction and maintenance and recovery of anesthetized patients, assist with patient restraint, be able to calculate drug doses including CRIs and maintain a working knowledge of pharmacokinetics of all drugs routinely used, and occasionally help in other areas of the hospital when/if needed. You will also need to have excellent communication skills with owners and with other members of our hospital as well as referral hospitals.
