  • Administer safe and compassionate radiation treatment to cancer patients according to the plans prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Responsible for the safety of the patient and for observing and documenting any reactions to treatments.
  • Maintain equipment and follow all safety regulations regarding radiation exposure.
  • Handle various aspects of the job simultaneously while maintaining a calm outward appearance.
  • Possess knowledge of emergency codes, location of emergency equipment and method of activation.
  • Maintain radiation protection standards for patients, employees and self, according to ALARA principles.
  • Operate radiation producing equipment according to department and vendor guidelines to deliver radiation therapy as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Understand the mechanics of specific disease and treatment planning and be involved in the verification of these factors.
  • Perform duties in compliance with universal precaution, infection control, medical records charting/documentation and patient safety requirements.
  • Produce treatment setups within acceptable parameters on a daily basis.
  • Review Radiation Oncologist change requests in treatment setups and implement changes.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care/needs of the patients.
  • Verify lab work prior to treatment; obtain approval prior to treatment if lab values are below the recommended ranges specified by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Report malfunctions/discrepancies in equipment output or performance and any potential error regarding patient treatment/setup to Chief Therapist and/or Medical Physicist.
  • Review and document consistency check for new starts/field reductions/boosts.
  • Identify the treatment volume, duplicating the simulation films and treatment plans.
  • Rotate through simulator, accelerators, and HDR; able to perform assigned duties in each, including QA performance.
  • Observe symptoms/reactions to treatment and report to RN and/or Radiation Oncologist.
  • Demonstrate teamwork approach by assisting coworkers in expediting processes to ensure efficient & effective workflow in the delivery of quality care.
  • Responsible for radiation therapy staff and provides staff training and coverage when necessary.
  • State of Florida Radiologic Technologist (Radiation Therapy Technologist) license
  • ARRT(T) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-Radiation Therapy certification
  • BLS-CPR certification required
  • Fluent in the English language
  • Experience/knowledge of computers
  • Effective communication skill
  • Minimum A.S. or B.S. graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapist program
  • Minimum two (2) years hospital experience.
