About The Position

Works as a float radiation therapist applying ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. Assists the physics staff with patient planning and performs QA on treatment equipment.

Requirements

  • Program Graduate, Radiation Therapy Accredited Program (Required)
  • Radiation Therapist - The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) ARRT (R), (RT) (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
  • Call Rotation
  • Weekend Shifts
  • Work/Float in more than one work location

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience or program experience caring for cancer patients, operation of a linear accelerator, and CT simulator. (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Applies ionizing radiation in accordance with the prescription and instructions from the radiation oncologist.
  • Performs patient setups and CT simulation.
  • Completes time out prior to simulation and verifies completion and accuracy of consent.
  • Performs simulations and constructs immobilization devices to physicians’ specifications and appropriate to the patient’s health status.
  • Documents all information for patient treatment(e.g. scans, set up instructions, other appointments), and communicates appropriately at hand-off.
  • Checks prescription and plan for accuracy prior to treatment.
  • Ensures all required QA has been performed and reviewed prior to treatment.
  • Verifies completion and accuracy of consent.
  • Performs timeout prior to all procedures.
  • Uses tattoos and setup marks appropriately and consistently.
  • Uses imaging equipment to verify and document isocenter prior to treatment.
  • Troubleshoots technical setups by collaborating with MDs, physicists, and fellow team members to ensure accurate treatment.
  • Explains treatment process to patient and answers questions as needed.
  • Follows safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals, RHS Team Up For Safety, and the RHS Code of Ethics.
  • Complies with HIPAA guidelines, places patient-confidential information in secure areas.
  • Uses individual log on for computer applications.
  • Follows time-out, infection control, and fall policies.
  • Supports PI activities.
  • Reports and documents equipment issues in a timely manner.
  • Manages patient schedules, pro actively notify or calls patients for delays.
  • Prioritizes and accomplish assignments so that work assignments are completed by deadlines.
  • Assists with data used to measure the quality of patient care and/or work processes.
