About The Position

The Radiation Therapist position at Winchester Hospital involves delivering personalized radiation therapy to patients as part of the Radiation Oncology Team. The role requires ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to treatment protocols while maintaining a professional environment. The therapist will work closely with patients, perform quality assurance checks, and assist in various technical and administrative tasks related to radiation therapy.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program.
  • Registry eligible for ARRT and must obtain ARRT certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Must be temporarily licensed by the State of Massachusetts Department of Public Health and obtain a permanent license within 12 months of hire.
  • Trained in equipment maintenance and possess a general understanding of Physics, Anatomy, and Physiology.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Six months of Radiation Oncology Therapy experience or equivalent clinical experience obtained through completion of a Radiation Therapy Program.
  • Ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards in the absence of preferred skills.

Responsibilities

  • Administer ionizing radiation therapy according to the prescription and instruction of the radiation oncologist.
  • Check that informed consent has been completed and verify patient identification.
  • Perform calculations prior to treatment including IMPAC and ensure accurate positioning and patient comfort.
  • Maintain visual and verbal contact with the patient during treatment delivery.
  • Deliver the prescribed course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision after checking patient charts.
  • Prepare the treatment room for each patient and transfer patients safely to the treatment couch.
  • Maintain skin markings and be knowledgeable in tattoo techniques.
  • Observe patients for unusual reactions and report occurrences to the Radiation Oncologist or Nurse.
  • Monitor radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.
  • Assist in daily quality assurance checks on treatment equipment and report erratic machine operation.
  • Assist in tumor localization and preparation of immobilization devices, and may assist in dosimetry procedures.
  • Maintain orderliness and efficiency of the work area and department records accurately.
  • Perform patient quality assurance routinely and keep treatment and simulation rooms supplied with inventory as needed.
  • Present oneself in a professional manner and assist in the orientation of new employees.
  • Provide technical direction, guidance, and explanation to others as needed.
  • Record patient data, produce films, and forward them to physics and the radiation oncologist.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment for patients and staff.
