About The Position

Talen Energy is inviting enthusiastic candidates to apply for our 2026 Radiation Protection Summer Internship at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station. As one of the largest dual-unit, Boiling Water Reactor sites in the U.S., the Susquehanna Station generates approximately 2700 MW of electricity, powering the Northeastern Pennsylvania grid. Our location, less than 30 miles south of Wilkes-Barre and at the western edge of the scenic Pocono Mountains, offers a blend of professional opportunity and natural beauty, with easy access to major East Coast cities. The Talen Energy Radiation Protection Internship is a comprehensive work-study program designed to provide college students with hands-on experience in both power plant operations and office settings. This program is ideal for students looking to explore potential career paths in Nuclear Power, Health Physics/Radiation Protection, gain real-world experience, and develop practical skills that complement their academic learning. As a Talen Energy Intern, You Will: Contribute to the achievement of departmental goals through special projects. Engage with senior executives and gain insights into the energy industry. Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university program as an undergraduate or graduate student in Health Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Must be a full-time student (minimum 12 semester hours).
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and able to provide an official transcript and other required documentation.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. in accordance with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled in Health Physics/Radiation Physics, Mathematics, or Nuclear Engineering curriculum.
  • Strength in mathematics and statistical analysis of data.
  • Analog/Digital Electronics knowledge.
  • Knowledge of radioactive decay processes, radiation detection, and interactions with matter.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Passion for learning and contributing to a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interns will support various Radiation Protection activities at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station.
  • Project assignment includes statistical analysis of radiation detection instrumentation calibration and quality control check data with objective of reporting on stability of instrumentation and any associated recommendations based on performance history.
