About The Position

This position will work at several locations with the primary site being AGH. GENERAL OVERVIEW: Implement AHN Radiation Safety program and radiation physics department quality goals and objectives by providing essential technical support to ensure compliance with PA DEP, TJC, CMS and DOH regulations across the AHN enterprise. Major responsibilities include: compliance and accreditation testing and documentation for imaging equipment, oversight and auditing of radioactive materials/radiation safety program, maintenance of personnel dosimetry program, development and oversight of quality control programs for imaging equipment and patient dose metrics, radiation safety training of AHN staff, direct patient care radiation safety support, quality assurance testing for radiation measuring equipment, radiation emergency response and overall support of Radiation Physics management and staff. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: IMAGING EQUIPMENT COMPLIANCE: Perform annual and post-repair regulatory and image quality physics testing on AHN imaging equipment to ensure compliance with PA-DEP regulations and accreditation requirements; work closely with Clinical Engineering to investigate and resolve equipment and image quality problems. (25%) RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS/RADIATION SAFETY COMPLIANCE: Perform oversight and auditing of radioactive materials/radiation safety program; Review documentation and perform testing to ensure compliance with PA-DEP regulations and individual facilities radioactive materials licenses. Assist RSO and Deputy RSO in investigating incidents. (20%) PERSONNEL DOSIMETRY: Maintain personnel radiation dosimetry monitoring program for AHN employees and physicians, including distribution and processing of badges, report generation, and meticulous recordkeeping, for regulatory review and to ensure PA-DEP compliance. (20%) IMAGING QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAM: Develop and oversee imaging QC program for diagnostic imaging equipment including image quality metrics, repeat analysis, imaging protocol reviews and dose metric monitoring. (10%) DIRECT PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES: Monitor, review, analyze and report patient dose metrics, including investigations of abnormal results utilizing Radiometric software; provide radiation safety monitoring and support for patients receiving therapeutic amounts of radioactive material, including I-131 and Y-90 therapies in coordination with nuclear medicine and interventional radiology physicians and staff. (5%) RADIATION SAFETY/MRI SAFETY TRAINING: provide radiation and MRI safety training to support staff in AHN facilities in compliance with PA-DEP and TJC regulations. (5%) RADIATION EMERGENCY RESPONSE: respond to internal and external radiation emergencies including radioactive material spills including radioactive contamination monitoring, decontamination, radioactive waste handling and required documentation. (5%) RADIATION PHYSICS STAFF SUPPORT: provide support to the RSO, Deputy RSO and radiation physics staff including, but not limited to, participation in PA-DEP radioactive material inspections; assist Senior Radiation Physicists with equipment testing and QC activities; assist Radiation Physics Technician with radioactive material regulatory activities. (5%) Other duties as assigned. (5%)

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Radiologic/Nuclear Imaging, Sciences, or Biomedical Engineering field or 6 years of relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of bachelor's degree
  • 1 - 3 years Computer skills including spreadsheets and documents
  • 1 - 3 years Calculator and math skills
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • 3 - 5 years Imaging technologist
  • 1 - 3 years Regulatory compliance experience
  • ARRT or NMTCB certification
