Job Description: Position Overview: The Radiation Oncology Nurse reports to the Regional Nurse Manager and serves as clinical support to the Radiation Oncologist. The Radiation Oncology Nurse works in collaboration with other team members to deliver quality patient care in accordance with established process standards. The nurse assists leadership in maintaining nursing care processes, including observation of trends, and tracking data in support of quality initiatives.

Requirements

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Successful completion of competency-based orientation program.
  • CPR certification or acquisition within 90 days of employment
  • 2-3 years of general nursing experience; radiation oncology experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Consistently applies department policy/procedure and works in compliance with all aspects of nursing/medical processes.
  • Maintains basic understanding of interdisciplinary team functions (physicists, therapists, technicians, and others) in support of collaborative care delivery and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Guarantees patient readiness for provider appointments by securing records related to medical history and oncology diagnosis and treatment.
  • Conducts baseline and ongoing patient assessment integrating findings and reporting patient needs to providers as indicated.
  • Understands and effectively manages treatment-related toxicities including supervision of prescriptions as needed.
  • Anticipates interventions to ensure multidisciplinary coordination of care such as referrals.
  • Provides patient education focused on radiation processes, goals of care and symptom management. Recommends material revisions as the need arises.
  • Completes thorough charting in the electronic medical record system ensuring documentation is readily available, accurate and up to date.
  • Responds to onsite emergencies.
  • Acts as a preceptor to new hires.
  • All other duties as assigned.
