About The Position

The Advanced Imaging Engineer - Specialist performs a variety of tasks including repair, calibration, inspection, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of imaging and/or radiation oncology equipment to ensure safe and effective operations. Responsible for performing electrical safety tests on equipment. Resolve technical issues with equipment, often involving complex mechanical, electrical, and software components. Be a resource for staff members who will use equipment by bridging the gap combining technical expertise with understanding of imaging and/or radiation oncology delivery. Lead, instruct, and assist less experienced Engineers and provide coaching and feedback to Engineer team members. In the absence of leadership, ensure team members are completing day to day operational requirements. Essential Job Statements Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair on assigned equipment. Perform installation, validation and maintenance on assigned equipment. Lead communications with customers and serve as escalation point for customer-related concerns including installs. Own customer issues from dispatch or identification of issue to resolution. Ensure equipment meets established safety and performance standards through rigorous testing and quality control procedures. Adhere to strict safety protocols and regulatory requirements related to the use of equipment. Assist in the procurement, installation, commissioning and maintenance of new technology for delivery. Partner with the customer and recommend value-added services that will help the customer. Keep up to date on administrative responsibilities such as maintaining customer service logs and internal service records in a timely manner, ordering repair parts, and managing cycle times. Proactively communicate with unit managers when expenses for repairs will impact their budget. Keep up to date with vendor information and market trends. Participate in advanced training for specific vendor and model equipment that may require travel to locations outside the local area for extended periods of time. Lead, instruct, and assist less experienced Engineers and provide coaching and feedback to team members. In the absence of leadership ensure Engineering team members are completing day to day operational requirements. Demonstrate strong understanding of expense management and approval process. Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Full understanding of electrical principles and theory, Electrical Safety, Basic electrical instrumentation care and use, and basic understanding of healthcare structure and environment. Basic understanding of Microsoft Applications and understanding of computer functions. Sound knowledge of software applications relevant to Advanced Imaging and/or Radiation Oncology equipment involving major imaging contracted vendors utilized at VCUHS. Complete understanding of the networking of the equipment to internal and external systems. Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Understand the advance electronics and networking that is required for advanced imaging systems. Complete understanding and broad application of technical principals, theories and concepts in primary equipment and working knowledge of related equipment. Thorough understanding of system architectures, both software and hardware components that support system troubleshooting and repairs. Working knowledge of operating system, system communications, and device networking with the ability to utilize and manage system logging and error reports. Working Conditions Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. General office environment. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust, wind, etc. Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids. Requirements

  • Associate’s in Engineering or related field. Or combination of experience and education in lieu of related degree.
