About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. As a Radiation Effects Test Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and mission readiness of satellite electronics operating in the space radiation environment. This role spans test planning, implementation, and analysis, with a strong emphasis on scalable test infrastructure, data quality, and cross-team collaboration. You will work independently in lab and test-site environments, bring a curiosity-driven mindset to continuously improving test processes and automation, and clearly document results to support engineering and program decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience
  • Working knowledge of basic circuit concepts and ability to troubleshoot electronic systems
  • Experience writing scripts for lab automation and data analysis
  • Familiarity with common lab equipment such as power supplies, data acquisition systems, electronic loads, and oscilloscopes or spectrum analyzers

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience with radiation effects testing, including Total Ionizing Dose (TID) or Single Event Effects (SEE)
  • Experience with commercial, defense, or other high-reliability space hardware programs
  • Experience visualizing test data using dashboards or plotting tools (e.g., SQL, Grafana or similar)
  • Knowledge on cloud-based data storage or tooling for managing test results (e.g., AWS S3, DynamoDB)
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to automate data parsing, anomaly detection, report generation, and test workflow optimization

Responsibilities

  • Partner with hardware design and radiation effects engineers to define radiation test objectives and plans
  • Coordinate logistics and execution with internal teams and third-party test vendors
  • Travel to conduct radiation testing on electronic components and satellite hardware at heavy ion, proton, and gamma irradiation facilities
  • Analyze radiation test data to identify failure modes and assess component or system behavior
  • Develop and maintain test automation and data-collection scripts
  • Improve test documentation, data management, and workflows to increase throughput, repeatability, and long-term accessibility of results

Benefits

  • health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage)
