The Raytheon Fullerton Field Engineering team supports Sentinel® radars which are the primary air defense radar for the US Army as well as part of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS®) defense system in support of several foreign customers. We’re looking for Systems Engineers to perform a wide variety of radar-related tasks to include maintenance, operations, modification, testing, troubleshooting and integration activities at both Fullerton and abroad. As a Field Engineering Sentinel Radar Systems Engineer, you will participate in challenging multi-disciplinary work consisting of: System environmental testing. Supporting development of test procedures for Improved Sentinel systems. Evaluating system performance to verify system functionality and interoperability and documenting results in support of proposed system upgrades / enhancements. Integration & Test of Radar following hardware and firmware modification. Support training, test and radar modification events. Position Location Onsite – Fullerton, CA Travel is approximately 80% CONUS and OCONUS.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • 2+ years experience in System Integration & Test of hardware and software.
  • 2+ years experience using technical manuals, interpreting product drawings and/or reading schematics as part of troubleshooting system failures.
  • 2+ years experience working with basic test equipment, e.g. Oscilloscopes, Power Meters, Digital Multimeters.

Nice To Haves

  • Willingness to travel regularly to support Field Engineering efforts whose duration may be in excess of 1 month.
  • Experience working on a team and by yourself, interfacing with multiple engineering disciplines and communicating status and support needs to supervisory management.
  • Experience with radar hardware integration, operation, test and verification.
  • CompTIA A+ certification.
  • Experience working with switches, routers and IP addressing, and use of terminal emulation and remote access tools, e.g. Tera Term, PuTTY, Telnet.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment, receiving inputs from team supervisors and providing guidance and/or direction to other team members.
  • Support hands-on operational Integration and Test at the Fullerton Test Site.
  • Support flight tests, training events, and radar modification conducts both CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Provide critical troubleshooting, maintenance and operational support to CONUS and OCONUS radar systems for a variety of customers.
  • Develop and provide inputs to test plans and procedures for various customers as applicable.
  • Provide transparent identification and communication of issues to functional leadership and engagement for resources for resolution (Subject Matter Expert support, replacement materials/parts).
  • Utilize simple hand tools (e.g. wrenches, ball allen sets, pinning/depinning tools) and test equipment (e.g. oscilloscope, power meter, multimeter) on a near-daily basis as part of radar modification and testing support.
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the year to include occasional extended conducts in excess of 1 month.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs and assist with two person lifts up to 75 lbs with available lifting assistance.
  • Ability to work on platforms as part of military trailers (e.g. Light Medium Tactical Vehicle trailer).
  • Ability to work in outdoor and enclosed environments with inclement weather conditions on customer sites and military bases.
  • Ability to work extended work days (if needed).
