Performs mammography procedures according to department procedure using standard mammography equipment to apply prescribed ionizing radiation in order to assist physicians in the screening, diagnosis and treatment of patients. Performs related tasks such as assisting patients in positioning for correct anatomical exposure, maintaining order and cleanliness of work area and performing routine clerical tasks. Works as technologist and performs duties in other areas and/or modalities as necessary. Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times.   • Provides care for the psychological and physical needs of patients undergoing mammographic studies.
  • Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty always.
  • Obtains and examines the requisition for mammography.
  • Always checks patient identification before any procedure is performed.
  • Ensures patient questionnaire is properly completed according to department policy.
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving the operation of mammographic radiographic equipment and other equipment/devices as appropriate.
  • Prepare and set up medical supplies using aseptic techniques as appropriate.
  • Participates in transfer of patients if needed, positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure to obtain and effect the desired radiographic screening/diagnostic results as specified by the physician.
  • Follows all department established and appropriate policies and procedures as required.
  • Makes changes and adjustments to techniques as required by observance of Radiologist, Supervisor and self-improvement and initiative.
  • Calculates and selects proper technical factors based on such information as patient's size, physical condition and suspected pathology.
  • Sets up equipment as necessary and uses proper technique and exposure factors as necessary and required.
  • Selects equipment appropriate to the patient and the examination to be performed.
  • Selects and record exposure factors based upon breast tissue density, patient’s age, numerical compression scale and equipment characteristics.
  • Places radiopaque markers on image to document breast imaged and projection used.
  • Positions patient and equipment to provide projections specified by department protocol or requisition form.
  • Evaluate the images to assure that they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic quality.
  • Checks equipment and accessories to insure they are in proper operating condition.
  • ARRT certification in Radiology
  • RTR licensure in Commonwealth Massachusetts.
  • Mammography certification is required.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Maintaining all area specific CEUs for ARRT, DPH according to regulation is required
  • Meeting all requirements of FDA/MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) including the MQSA CE (continuing education) requirements.
