Requirements

  • ARRT certification in Radiology.
  • RTR licensure in Commonwealth Massachusetts.
  • Mammography certification is required.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Maintaining all area specific CEUs for ARRT, DPH according to regulation is required.
  • Meeting all requirements of FDA/MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) including the MQSA CE (continuing education) requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times.
  • Performs mammography procedures according to department procedure using standard mammography equipment to apply prescribed ionizing radiation in order to assist physicians in the screening, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Assists patients in positioning for correct anatomical exposure.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness of work area and performs routine clerical tasks.
  • Works as technologist and performs duties in other areas and/or modalities as necessary.
  • Provides care for the psychological and physical needs of patients undergoing mammographic studies.
  • Obtains and examines the requisition for mammography.
  • Checks patient identification before any procedure is performed.
  • Ensures patient questionnaire is properly completed according to department policy.
  • Participates in transfer of patients if needed, positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure to obtain and effect the desired radiographic screening/diagnostic results as specified by the physician.
  • Follows all department established and appropriate policies and procedures as required.
  • Calculates and selects proper technical factors based on patient's size, physical condition and suspected pathology.
  • Sets up equipment as necessary and uses proper technique and exposure factors as necessary.
  • Evaluates the images to assure that they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic quality.
  • Checks equipment and accessories to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
