This position involves performing a variety of technical radiologic procedures using standard, portable and/or specialized x-ray equipment to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients' illnesses and injuries. The role includes related tasks such as assisting patients in positioning for correct anatomical exposure, maintaining order and cleanliness of the work area, and performing routine clerical tasks.

Requirements

  • RTR licensure in the Commonwealth Massachusetts.
  • ARRT certification in Radiology required within 12 months from date of hire.
  • BLS certification.
  • Maintain all area specific CEUs for ARRT, DPH according to regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for exams as required and ensures patient comfort and modesty at all times.
  • Obtains and examines the requisition for imaging examination and checks patient identification.
  • Participates in the transfer of patients if needed, positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure.
  • Follows all department established and appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Provides protection to unaffected areas of the body from radiation exposure.
  • Calculates and selects proper technical factors as appropriate to the procedure.
  • Evaluates the images to assure that they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic quality.
  • Operates imaging equipment according to specific diagnostic procedures.
  • Follows PACs workflow procedures and ensures all electronic images meet quality standards.
  • Monitors patients receiving contrast for adverse reactions and explains procedures to patients and family members.
  • Assists physicians in the performance of specialized examinations.
  • Ensures that images, examination requisitions, and other related records are properly completed.
  • Maintains competence in standard radiologic procedures by rotating into radiology areas as assigned.
  • Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor.
  • Maintains work area in clean and orderly condition.
