JOB SUMMARYResponsible for the preparation, distribution, collection, and maintenance of racing silks and related equipment to ensure accuracy, cleanliness, and compliance with racing regulations for all scheduled races. This is a seasonal position for the March race meet at Colonial Downs.

Requirements

  • Ability to work collaboratively with jockeys, trainers, and racing officials.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Virginia Racing Commission racing license.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in racing operations, equine support roles, or similar environment preferred.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and issues racing silks, saddlecloths, and related equipment for each race in accordance with the official racing program.
  • Ensures correct silks are distributed to jockeys based on post position, ownership, and racing regulations.
  • Collects, inventories, and inspects silks and equipment following each race.
  • Maintains cleanliness, organization, and proper storage of all racing silks and equipment.
  • Reports missing, damaged, or incorrect silks or equipment to Racing Officials immediately.
  • Coordinates with the Clerk of Scales, Jockeys’ Room staff, and Racing Office to ensure timely and accurate distribution.
  • Ensures compliance with state racing commission rules and track policies regarding silks, colors, and equipment standards.
  • Maintains accurate records of silk usage, inventory, and cleaning schedules.
  • Assists with set-up and breakdown of the silks room before and after race days.
  • Attends required pre-race meetings, briefings, and regulatory inspections.
  • Resolves issues within the scope of authority and escalates matters beyond scope to the Racing Secretary or Director of Racing Operations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
