About The Position

Race Department is a team-oriented department focused on providing our race team members with excellent customer service on and off the mountain. This job focuses on training children in the skills, theory, sportsmanship, discipline and enjoyment of competitive skiing. Coaches may also be utilized to perform race clinics for other guests. Coaches may also travel to other ski areas to assist team members at race meetings. Coaches are integral in the organization, setup and execution of race events hosted at Dodge Ridge.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and leadership skills to influence the athletes in a positive manner.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to read and to write legibly and to use good composition skills to complete records and report forms.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Must be aware of the ski areas terrain and facilities.
  • Member in good standing of USSA and FAR WEST.
  • Level 100 USSA Coaching certification minimum.
  • Understanding of technical knowledge to explain the fundamentals of ski racing to the racers.
  • Willingness to travel to away races with the race team.
  • Advanced to expert skiing ability.
  • Ability to learn and be knowledgeable of the needs of the equipment and standard procedures for its care and safe operation.
  • Must be well groomed and present a good public image.
  • Good physical condition as this position requires skiing, hiking, shoveling, lifting and carrying.
  • Willingness to work during extreme weather conditions.
  • Safety and risk oriented.
  • Ability to maintain control over kids with a positive attitude.
  • Requires the skills of a host.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the Motor Vehicle Record qualifications as outlined in the Fleet Safety Program.

Responsibilities

  • Promote teamwork, trust, and respect.
  • Lead by example.
  • Communicate with Head Coach or Race Administrator any problems, schedule changes or questions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain race team fencing and gates to keep training areas safe and neat at all times.
  • Communicate with parents weekly regarding the progress of their athletes training.
  • Train race team members in all aspects of racing to prepare them for their races.
  • Support racers with positive reinforcement, lessons in good sportsmanship, and by setting a good example at all times.
  • Enforcement of safety rules.
  • Travel to away races and help racers work through tactics of each individual race situation.
  • Communication with other departments.
  • Demonstrate an on-going commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Maintain clean, safe and professional workstations.
  • Maintain any appropriate records as set forth by company policy and procedures.
  • Recognize and correct any safety hazards within the race department.
  • Shoveling snow, sometimes deep, heavy wet snow weighing more than 50 lbs. per shovel full.
  • Provide timely and accurate information concerning weather conditions, grooming or slope conditions.
  • Communicate problems to superiors, while showing initiative in handling routine and emergency matters.
